Safe Community Program

Safe community

As part of our corporate commitment to safety, the Enbridge Safe Community program offers grants to first responder organizations located in communities that host Enbridge operations.

Launched in 2002 as the “Enbridge 9-11 Fund,” the Safe Community program has invested more than $5.7 million in North American emergency responder organizations, including police and sheriff departments, firefighters and emergency medical services. The program helps underwrite equipment acquisitions or training that would help organizations better prepare to respond in the event of an emergency.

“Enbridge has been a proud supporter of Safe Community projects in the past and continues to help provide a safer environment for the communities it serves,” said Sgt. David Stuck, Michigan State Police.

First responder organizations located in communities near Enbridge operations in the United States should use the Enbridge contribution application process and specify on that application that they are seeking a Safe Community grant and how the funding would be used for equipment or training needs. When completing the contribution application, be sure to indicate that your organization is an "emergency first responder." Organizations are eligible to apply for a grant each calendar year. Examples of requests include, but are not limited to, foam, hydrocarbon detectors, personal protective equipment, pipeline emergency training and communication upgrades.

Additionally, eligible organization members successfully completing the Enbridge online pipeline emergency responder education program may earn a supplemental Safe Community grant for their organization. Information about the emergency responder education program may be found here.
